Format and Structure
Weekly check-ins are 15-minute one-on-one meetings held between students and program staff, mentors, or advisors. These sessions take place in a quiet, private environment where students feel safe, respected, and heard.
Purpose and Objectives
These touchpoints are designed to:
- • Monitor student well-being and academic progress
- • Identify and proactively respond to challenges
- • Encourage reflection and goal setting
- • Reinforce student identity and self-efficacy
- • Provide consistent mentoring and emotional support
Example Questions for Facilitators
Facilitators are encouraged to use open-ended questions to guide discussion and build trust:
- • How are you feeling this week?
- • Are you struggling with anything academically or personally?
- • How do you feel about the progress you're making toward your goals?
- • What's been a win or highlight for you recently?
- • What’s something you’d like to talk about today?
- • Is there anything I can help you with?
Creating a Supportive Space
Facilitators should foster an atmosphere of psychological safety by showing empathy, listening actively, and validating student experiences. Trust is the foundation for meaningful conversations and early intervention.
