Program Immersion
A foundational intervention of the P2SCS program is a fully immersive summer residential experience that integrates academic preparation with personal development and community building.
10-Week Summer Residential Experience
Program Immersion begins with students living on campus for 10 weeks during the summer. This environment allows students to acclimate to university life, build social bonds, and develop routines that support academic success. Housing, meals, and program activities are fully provided at no cost to students.
Holistic Academic and Social Integration
The summer immersion is designed with a holistic philosophy, targeting both the academic and social-emotional growth of each scholar. Students participate in coursework designed to strengthen core computer science and math skills, as well as writing and communication workshops to enhance their readiness for college-level expectations.
Equally important are structured social activities, mentorship programs, and identity-affirming experiences that promote belonging and resilience. From peer dinners and reflection circles to faculty volleyball games and industry field trips, the immersion program creates a layered support system to encourage persistence in a CS degree program.
Building Lasting Supports
By the end of the immersion program, students have not only gained foundational skills but have also built a strong cohort identity. This cohort becomes a consistent source of peer support throughout the academic year, helping students persist once program supports end.
